FSG Policy for people-friendly and Earth friendly packaging - Challenge of Wal-Mart
Challenges of the Customer
As the recycling of packaging gains momentum globally, Wal-Mart stores across the US embarked on a packaging reduction project in 2008.The project seeks the cooperation of 60,000 suppliers worldwide in an aim to reduce packaging use by 5% by the year 2013.
In November 2006, Wal-Mart preceded this project by introducing a packaging score card points system involving 2000 of their own-brand suppliers. Wal-Mart purchasing agents use this information about alternative and sustainable packaging material when making purchasing decisions.

Our Environmental Policy
Attentively listening to customer demands, Fuji Seal has applied the points system in regards to packaging materials: PET=3 pts、OPS=2 pts、PVC=1 pt, compound materials=0 pts. Fuji seal has envisaged this system as a system that makes us a comprehensive supplier who not only addresses and meets environmental challenges, but also strengthens and enhances the group’s cost-competitiveness and creativity.
Specifically, we recorded that 80% of our orders be fulfilled with non-PVC oriented products. As a result, we achieved an increase more than 10% on the previous year, and also studied the implementation, know-how and developments in environment-friendly technology in leading nations around the world.
Results and Future Development
The Fuji Seal group, in addition to fronting the challenges of its shrink label environmental policy, sees opportunity and potential from the utilization and development of its technological and problem-solving know-how. As these distribution industry environmental developments have already gained ground not just in the US, but also in Europe and Asia, Fuji Seal aims to use its expertise to further expand its global market share.
